This early 70's rock tune is one of my
favorites. It was composed mainly
by Mick Jagger as we now know after reading
Keith Richards' self biography 'LIFE' that
is to become a bedsider for all Rolling
Stones' fans ! Brown Sugar is a great
rock and roll classic by the Rolling Stones
quite easy to play once you understand how
you synchronize the guitars in the chorus. I
played it just from listening to the tune just after understanding
open tunings some fifteen years ago and
afterwards I couldn't find a satisfactory
tab to improve the way I played it so I
tabbed it down from what I played.
This old tab has been brushed up a lot since I
first wrote it.
There are four guitars,
two electric and one acoustic and a bass.
The two electric guitars are tuned in open
G. There is no outstanding lead guitar (as
Keith Richards always emphasizes). In the
tab I called the first one the rhythm guitar
because it plays full chords most of the
time and the second one the lead guitar but
all this is arbitrary.
For the second guitar the 6th string
is left in E (not in D) for the solos in the
outro (though most of the solos are played
with a saxophon in minor pentatonic C). It
is easier to play the open G with the first
string removed like Keith Richards does.
